Erdemir, Türkiye's largest flat steel producer, is counting down the days to commission “Zübeyde”. The 2nd Blast Furnace “Zübeyde”, which Erdemir rebuilt as part of its investments to increase productivity, will realize its first production on October 29th, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.
Erdemir, one of OYAK's Mining Metallurgy Companies, rebuilt the 2nd Blast Furnace “Zübeyde” to ensure efficient and sustainable production. This 2nd Blast Furnace, named after the mother of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, will be commissioned with a ceremony to be held on October 29, 2023.
The new furnace, introduced to the Turkish industry on the 100th anniversary of the Republic, will increase Erdemir's annual production capacity from 1,625,000 tons to 1,775,000 tons. Erdemir will contribute to sustainable production by enhancing its efficiency with the new 2nd Blast Furnace.
Constructed to replace the 2nd Blast Furnace, which has been in operation since 1978, the new furnace has been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that will advance Erdemir's occupational health and safety, environmental, and energy performance.
Critically important in steel production
The production of liquid crude iron, one of the most crucial stages in integrated steel production, takes place in facilities known as ‘Blast Furnaces’. With the aim of enhancing efficiency and contributing to sustainable production, Erdemir decided to renovate the 2nd Blast Furnace “Zübeyde” without deactivating the old furnace.
Erdemir will commence its first production in the refurbished “Zübeyde” on October 29th and will share in the enthusiasm of the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
