HEKTAŞ's domestic vegetable seeds introduced at Growtech Fair

HEKTAŞ, an OYAK Group company that is the solution partner of the agricultural sector, introduced its domestic vegetable seeds at Growtech, the world's largest greenhouse agriculture sector fair held in Antalya between November 22 and 25.

More than 20 domestic seed varieties developed by Areo Seed, a subsidiary of HEKTAŞ, which aims to reduce Türkiye's foreign dependency in seed production, attracted the attention of visitors with their disease resistance, yield and taste.

HEKTAŞ, a solution partner of the sector in sustainable agricultural production with its know-how and products in the fields of plant protection, plant nutrition, seeds and animal health, met with sector representatives from Türkiye and around the world at Growtech Fair, the world's largest greenhouse agriculture sector fair.

HEKTAŞ introduced its plant protection and plant nutrition products and smart agriculture solutions for sustainable agricultural production as well as its new domestic seeds for the first time at Growtech Fair. HEKTAŞ, the leader of the organomineral fertilizer market, also unveiled for the first time the 'Premium' version of Tradite organomineral fertilizer, which has been used by producers for the last 6 years.

Areo Seed's goal is to become a global brand

Focusing on the domestic production and diversification of seeds resistant to diseases and climatic conditions, Areo Seed, a subsidiary of HEKTAŞ, introduced more than 20 new seed varieties at the Growtech 2023 Fair, including cotton, corn, sunflower in the field group and pepper, tomato and cucumber in the vegetable group.

Aiming to reduce Türkiye's dependence on foreign seeds, Areo Seed continues its activities at the Seed Technologies Center located in Akdeniz University Antalya Teknokent in line with its vision of 'becoming a global brand'.

Areo Seed aims to meet the needs of farmers for high quality varieties and high quality seeds at world standards. Areo Seed carries out breeding activities with the latest technologies in the world to develop wheat, cotton, corn, sunflower, barley, tomato, pepper, cucumber, eggplant, melon and watermelon seeds. Areo Seed also carries out joint projects with TAGEM under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and universities and research institutes.

High disease tolerance and high yield

In order for the rapidly growing world population to access food, the development of drought and disease resistant and efficient seeds is of great importance. Areo Seed, which exhibited seeds with high fruit quality and resistant to adverse conditions for the needs of target markets at Growtech Fair, is preparing to have a say in the market as of 2024 with these products. In 2024, Areo Seed will also start sales of domestic cotton seeds, which it has been producing since last year.

3 companies dominate the world seed market

The global seed market, which currently exceeds 72.9 billion dollars, is expected to reach 78.7 billion dollars by 2026. The vegetable seed market, which has 11 percent of the global seed market with 8.02 billion dollars, is expected to reach 12.6 billion dollars by 2026.

Three agrochemical giants dominating the world seed market have a 50 percent share of the global market. While 95 percent of the vegetable seed market in European Union countries is controlled by only 5 companies, these companies also dominate 75 percent of the corn seed market.

Carrying out studies on high quality vegetable and field hybrid seeds in its own research and development greenhouses, Areo Seed aims to have a say in the world as well as reducing Türkiye's dependence on foreign seeds.
