Alpine is opening the doors to a new era with the A290, the first electric sports car developed with French expertise and the brand's three core bases: performance, agility and lightness. MAİS A.Ş. is preparing to launch the Alpine A290 in Türkiye in the first half of 2025.
As the first model in Alpine's all-electric Dream Garage series, the A290 symbolizes the Alpine brand's transition from the circuits to the streets of the city and its reach to a wider consumer audience. With its compact and agile design, high performance and ultimate comfort, this new urban sports car combines the spirit of Alpine and all its features.
Dr. Berk Çağdaş, General Manager of MAİS A.Ş., said: “With the initiative and support of OYAK, we are working on our Alpine A290 model, which we plan to introduce to the target audience in Türkiye in the first half of next year. I believe that with this new compact electric model, which will carry the spirit of Alpine from the circuit to the streets, we will add brand new young and dynamic individuals to Alpine's target audience both in Türkiye and in the world.”
Exterior Design as a Pure Expression of Sportiness
Despite being a small city car shorter than 4 meters, the Alpine A290 has a muscular appearance owing to its body proportions. While the AmpR Small platform enables the Alpine design team led by Antony Villain to give the model a perfect base, the increased track width by 60 mm intensifies this effect even more. Thus, the A290 reveals a muscular hot-hatch attitude ready to move. With a length of 3,990 mm, a width of 1,820 mm, a height of 1,520 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,530 mm, the A290 has very compact dimensions.
The A290 offers a design that maintains the tradition of Jean Rédélé. The front with four headlights found in all Alpine models can be recognized even from a distance with its unique light signature, while the X-shaped patterns, reminiscent of rally cars, grab attention.
Wide fenders, side sills with body-colored edges that accentuate the fenders, aluminum or anodized blue roof edges as standard in certain versions, and many other fine details give the A290's exterior design a powerful expression. The front of the vehicle bears the Alpine inscription, and the special sporty bumper is adorned with a typical snowflake pattern.
At every phase of the A290's body design process, aerodynamic factors were considered to maximize the electric range. In addition to the wide side sills, diffuser, fins, and the shape of rear lights, the air intakes in the bumper are specially designed for maximum efficiency.
The Alpine A290 features four body colors, including the new Alpine Vision Blue. It is also offered in Deep Black, Nival White, and Matt Tornado Grey.
Interior Design: Cockpit Ambiance
The A290 is a vibrant small car with 5 seats, 5 doors, and a boot of 326 liters. The cockpit displays a sporty appearance unique to the Alpine world with a Deep Blue color option. Covered with Nappa leather, the three-spoke sports steering wheel is thickly designed to accentuate the A290's sporty character and to be gripped better. While the RCH rotary knob, which adjusts the regeneration level of charging is on the left of the steering wheel, several buttons managing driving modes, a red attention-grabbing OV overtaking button, and a few special ones inspired by the world of Formula 1 are placed on the right side. In addition to control buttons for driving aids, telephone, voice assistant, and display mode, the steering wheel includes a dedicated voice control module.
The sport pedals and footrest complement the ergonomics of the A290's sporty driving position. The physical climate control buttons and the 10.1-inch central display are ergonomically positioned to allow drivers to use them without taking their eyes off the road. Made from eco-friendly materials, the upholstery mirrors the commitment to sustainability. The seats at the first equipment package are covered with 100% recycled dark blue fabric combined with silica gray contrast stitches, while the dashboard, sides of the center console, and door panels are covered with porous fabric. An electric arrow-shaped A logo is placed on the upper part of the backrest. In GT Premium and GTS versions, the seats, dashboard, and door panels are covered with Deep Blue and Eevee Grey Nappa leather. Alpine relief is engraved on the leather headrests and the A290 logo is etched in the middle of the backrest.
Platform and Dynamic Features: Accessible Sportiness
The Alpine A290 is one of the best-performing cars in its segment. With up to 220 HP, 300 Nm of torque, and a weight of 1,479 kg, its acceleration time up to 0-100 km/h is just 6.4 seconds. This 5-door and 5-seater city car, which is only 3.99 meters long, keeps the comfort and practicality it offers. It enables smooth daily use owing to a generous boot space of 326 liters and a 10.20-meter turning circle.
The all-aluminum design and battery size help keep the weight at 1,479 kg, a highly competitive value. The low center of gravity limits body oscillations for the A290. The multi-link rear suspension, which is rare in this class, allows the wheel position to be precisely adjusted, giving the A290 the best handling in its class.
The A290's 26 driving assistance systems (ADAS) include automatic emergency braking in reverse gear, emergent lane correction, safe passenger exit, and driver attention monitoring. The new My Safety Switch button, located on the left of the steering wheel, allows the driver to select ADAS setting preferences with a sweep. In addition, adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function and a lane departure system that allows overtaking two-wheeled vehicles are standard features in the A290.
Power-Train Systems: Performance and Efficiency
Depending on the version, the Alpine A290's engine has two different power levels: 180 HP in the base version and 220 HP in GT Premium, GT Performance, and GTS. The gradual throttle response was adjusted to allow the A290 to transform into an easy-to-control sports car despite the electric engine's high power and torque levels. In addition to the brake intervention, the A290's development engineers created Alpine Torque Technology, an advanced torque management system enabling precise adjustment for the optimum torque distribution to maximize traction.
Since there is no inherent engine noise in electric cars, creating a feedback sound system that accompanies driving and provides direct information about the stress in the powertrain helps to elevate the feeling and improve the driving experience. Cooperating with acousticians and musicians, Alpine teams created two Alpine Driving Sound tones at different frequencies and intensities based on the sounds produced by the engine. These sounds are emitted through the Devialet sound system specially designed for the A290. Alternative Sound, the first sound, offers a light and sporty tone produced for daily use. Alpine Sound, the second sound, helps to structure the driving stages with a unique sporty sound pattern suitable for the A290. Both Alpine Driving Sounds run independently from the driving modes and can be deactivated. The acoustic vehicle alerting system or AVAS, mandatory up to 30 km/h, is also designed with a unique Alpine sound to alert pedestrians against a moving electric vehicle.
Technology: An Immersive Digital Experience
The 10.25-inch instrument screen behind the steering wheel and the 10.1-inch central infotainment screen angled toward the driver contribute to the A290's ambiance with their special graphics, interfaces, and functions. This immersive digital experience is also reflected through unique visual themes that fit the sporty elegance of the A290's cockpit. Depending on the selected driving mode, the visual theme of the driving mode icon at the bottom of the speedometer changes to Normal, Sport (mountain line looks red), Eco (mountain line looks green), and Personal.
All voice assistant equipment packages include Google Maps with the electric route planning function, GPS navigation, and Google Assistant. Many apps are offered as Google Play content. Through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smartphones can be tethered or wirelessly connected to the integrated system. The Alpine Telemetrics function provides access to three main service categories based on the A290: Live Data, Coaching, and Racing.
Battery and Charging: A Comprehensive Ecosystem
The Alpine A290 comes as standard with a 52 kWh battery, providing a WLTP range of up to approximately 380 km. With the A290’s 100 kW DC fast-charging system, the battery can reach 80% charge from 15% charge in 30 minutes, and provide a WLTP range of up to 150 km with 15 minutes of charging. With the integrated 11 kW charger at the AC charging point, it is sufficient to charge the battery for 3 hours and 20 minutes to reach from 10% to 80%, for 1 hour and 20 minutes from 50% to 80%, and during 1 hour for 70 km WLTP range. The charger includes a bi-directional use feature that allows V2L (vehicle-to-device) functionality. It is also compatible with V2G (vehicle-to-grid) and lets money savings on charging at home through Mobilize Power service.
The Alpine A290 will be offered for sale in Türkiye in the first half of 2025.
