Erdemir Maden, the first and only iron ore pelleting facility in Turkey, is celebrating its 84th year. Meeting 38 percent of our country's iron ore production, Erdemir Maden continues to be the center of domestic raw material needs of OYAK Mining Metallurgy Companies.

Erdemir Maden, which meets 13 percent of Turkey's iron ore needs and all of its pellet needs, continues its journey that started on May 19, 1938 with firm steps. Erdemir Maden has a total of 13 license areas in Turkey, including 9 iron, 1 manganese, 1 coal and 2 clay fields. Continuing its efforts to open new mining sites and increase reserves, the company still meets 38 percent of the iron ore production in Turkey.

Erdemir Maden, the only facility in Turkey that produces iron pellets, has an annual pellet production capacity of one and a half million tons. Erdemir Maden focuses on environmental investments in parallel with its improvement and modernization investments since 2006, and completed its dust collection and gas treatment, domestic waste treatment, waste storage dam, landscaping and afforestation investments.

Increases production with investments

Erdemir Maden, which commissioned the Alacaağzı Coal Enterprise within the borders of Karadeniz Ereğli district of Zonguldak in 2019, has hard coal and quartz sand mines. In 2019, deep drillings, survey, project and feasibility studies for hard coal reserves in the license area were completed, and preparatory studies were started in 2020 within the scope of the investment program. Within the scope of the reserve development and quality determination project for the quartz sand mine in the license area, 73 drillings are planned in 2022.

Continuing its contribution to the region

Since its establishment, Erdemir Maden has provided financial and moral support to amateur athletes and amateur sports clubs in its region. In this context, it continues to support sports and athletes in every field, especially personal equipment, sports equipment, and the buildings they use.

Continuing its activities to contribute to the society in Sivas Divriği and Malatya Hekimhan regions, where its facilities are located, Erdemir Maden is in the position of supporter of the Glass Observation Terrace and Recreation Area construction project within the borders of Ulucami Mahallesi, which is also on the UNESCO heritage list this year. The project, which is carried out jointly with the Sivas Governorship and Divriği District Governorship, within the scope of contributing to the tourism and economy of the region, has been visited by 51,200 people since the day it was opened.

In addition to the observation terrace opened in August 2021, the company also supported the 'Cevher Çınarı’ (Ore Plane Tree), which was planted as a 'souvenir' in the region. Steel produced by Erdemir Maden and ore, which is the raw material of steel, were used as raw materials in the construction of the 'Ore Plane Tree' statue, which is 2.5 meters high, 1.90 meters wide and 20 millimeters thick. ‘Double-Headed Eagle', 'Tree of Life' and 'Plane Tree', which are important symbols of Anatolian civilizations, are included in the design of the statue.
