Applications have begun for the Steel and Life Sculpture Competition, organized by Erdemir this year under the theme “Infinite Human, Infinite Form.” Aiming to contribute to the development of sculpture as an art form and to support emerging talents, the competition also represents an important step toward strengthening art education in Türkiye.
For 61 years, Erdemir has brought the steel it produces to life together with the creative touch of young artists, continuing to encourage production among sculpture students studying at fine arts faculties across Türkiye. The pre-application period for the ninth edition of the competition will end on Friday, 6 March.
In line with this year’s theme, the competition seeks to convey the indispensable role of steel in human life through art, while contributing to the creative processes of young artists.
The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the sculpture departments of fine arts faculties at universities in Türkiye. The submission period for artworks will take place between 18–22 May 2026. The award ceremony will be held on 16 June at the OYAK Mining Metallurgy Conference and Foyer Area.
Theme: “Infinite Human, Infinite Form”
This year’s theme explores the boundless creativity of humanity alongside the limitless transformability of steel and the impact of technology on human identity. Steel is a physical entity that is reshaped with every contact; humanity, in turn, is a subject that continually redefines itself in every era.
Young artists are invited to make visible the “infinite” states of humanity by bringing together the physical form of steel and the invisible influences of technology through their imagination.
Jury to Select Award-Winning Works
As a result of the evaluations to be conducted by the Jury in the 9th Erdemir Steel and Life Sculpture Competition, first, second and third prizes will be awarded. In addition, a total of 18 artists will receive awards, including Honorable Mention Awards, the Erdemir Special Award and Jury Special Awards.
