Murat Yalçıntaş, General Manager of OYAK and Chairman of the Board of Erdemir, visited the Erdemir Romania facility, part of the OYAK Mining Metallurgy Group.

Yalçıntaş inspected the plant in Bucharest, Romania’s capital, and met with Erdemir Romania General Manager Doğan Güreş and the workforce.

With an annual production capacity of 150,000 tons, Erdemir Romania stands out for its expertise in producing high quality non grain oriented electrical steel, which is used in the cores of electric motors and generators.

In this new era of accelerating electrification and energy transition, Erdemir Romania is focusing on developing thinner products with lower magnetic losses specifically "E-Car" steels used in the traction motors of electric vehicles.

Leveraging over 50 years of experience in electrical steel, and backed by the strength and expertise of OYAK Mining Metallurgy, Erdemir Romania continues to advance the production of high-value-added steel to support Europe’s electrification transition.

OYAK Mining Metallurgy’s export hub in Europe

A key step in enhancing Erdemir Romania’s production capabilities was the introduction of hot-rolled coils specifically developed for electrical steel production at the İsdemir plant for use at the facility. The complementary nature of production and technical capabilities among OYAK Mining Metallurgy companies supports increases in capacity and efficiency while also laying a solid foundation for the development of high value added products.

With its proximity to European markets, robust production infrastructure, technical expertise, and experienced workforce, Erdemir Romania stands out as one of OYAK Mining Metallurgy’s key production and export hubs in Europe.

Erdemir Romania a key hub in OYAK’s international operations

Highlighting that Erdemir Romania is one of OYAK Mining Metallurgy’s most important export hubs in Europe, Murat Yalçıntaş noted that the production and technical capabilities of OYAK companies complement one another.

Emphasizing that the global energy transition is accelerating day by day, Yalçıntaş said, "Electrical steel lies at the very heart of this entire transformation, spanning everything from electric vehicles to renewable energy technologies. As Erdemir Romania, we possess over 50 years of deep-rooted production experience in Târgovişte. Moreover, we directly export 90 percent of our output."

The fact that we have begun using hot-rolled coils developed at İsdemir specifically for electrical steel production at our Romanian facility significantly boosts our capacity and efficiency.
