Türkiye’s Installed Electricity Capacity and Production
According to data for the electricity sector in 2024, total electricity consumption increased by 5.4% compared to the previous year, reaching 342.3 billion kWh.
By the end of 2024, the total installed electricity generation capacity in Türkiye, including both licensed and unlicensed production, had reached 115,382 MW. The breakdown of this capacity is as follows; natural gas 24,673 mw, imported coal 10,404 mw, domestic coal 11,475 mw, wind 12,576 mw, hydroelectric 32,203 mw, solar 19,618 mw, geothermal 1,728 mw, other technologies 2,705 mw this represents an 8.2% increase in installed capacity compared to 2023. As of the end of 2024, the total installed capacity of unlicensed power plants—most of which are solar power plants—reached 18,442 mw.
In 2024, Türkiye's total electricity generation amounted to 343.3 billion kWh, with exports of 3.7 billion kWh and imports of 2.7 billion kWh. Within this total production, the shares of different sources were as follows; natural gas plants 18.5%, hydroelectric plants 21.7%, imported coal plants 21.8%, lignite plants 12.1%, other plants 25.9%. The average Market Clearing Price in 2024 was 2,233 TL/MWh, marking an increase of approximately 2% compared to 2023.
One of Türkiye’s Largest International Investments
Among OYAK’s companies operating with a generation license in the electricity sector, İSKEN stands out as one of the largest international investments in the sector in Türkiye, as well as being one of the country’s largest thermal power plants.
Petroleum Products Trade and LPG Sector
With the share transfer agreement signed on February 22, 2020, the companies Güzel Enerji Akaryakıt A.Ş. (TotalEnergies Stations) and Milan Petrol San. ve Tic. A.Ş. (M Oil), operating in the petroleum products trade sector, became part of the OYAK Group Companies.
TotalEnergies Stations, operating in Türkiye since 1992, serves as the fourth largest fuel company in the country with 676 stations. M Oil, with 281 stations, has been active in the fuel and lubricant sector since 1996.
As of August 10, 2020, these two companies merged and have continued operations under their own brands within the umbrella of Güzel Enerji Akaryakıt A.Ş. Under the GüzelEnerji brand, these companies had risen to 4th place in total market share by the end of 2023.
On June 4, 2020, Likitgaz Dağıtım ve Endüstri A.Ş., operating in the LPG sector, also joined the OYAK Group Companies through a share transfer agreement. Operating under the Milangaz brand, this company continues its activities in the field of LPG trade and retail.
OYAK Energy Companies at a Glance
OYAK owns one of Türkiye’s largest power plants, with a total installed net electricity generation capacity of 1,341 MWm / 1,308 MW. OYAK Energy Companies supply approximately 3% of Türkiye’s total electricity demand.
In the petroleum products trade sector, GüzelEnerji, with 957 stations, ranks as the fourth largest fuel company in Türkiye.
In the LPG sector, Milangaz operates in autogas, cylinder gas, bulk gas, and wholesale trade segments. The company continues its services across Türkiye with 21 cylinder filling facilities, 5 marine terminals, 136,529 m³ LPG storage capacity, Over 900 autogas stations, Nearly 1,100 cylinder dealers and retail outlets with its “Energy Management” approach, the company provides electricity supply and related market services to customers in both wholesale and retail electricity markets.
As part of Türkiye’s energy transformation journey, OYAK operates under the title OTOJET Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., having obtained a Charging Network Operator license, and is actively installing and operating electric vehicles charging stations nationwide.
Established in 2023, OYAK PV Panel Üretim A.Ş. aims to become one of Türkiye’s key producers in the domestic and international solar energy sector, with a particular focus on supplying solar panels for OYAK Companies’ internal solar energy needs. The company will have an annual production capacity of 1 million panels, each with a capacity of 550 Wp.
