Second Strategic Move by OYAK and Renault: Renault Boreal to be Manufactured in Türkiye

10 July 2025

• The second major step in the €400 million investment initiative announced by OYAK and Renault in December 2023 has now been revealed.

• Following the Renault Duster, it has been announced that the new SUV model Renault Boreal will also be produced at the Oyak Renault Automobile Factories in Bursa.

• Scheduled to begin production in 2026, Boreal will be exported from Türkiye to over 50 countries.

“Renault Boreal will make significant contributions to both the automobile sector and the Turkish economy.”

Süleyman Savaş Erdem, CEO of OYAK, said: “Strengthening Türkiye’s position in the global market is one of OYAK’s primary goals. Above all else, we are committed to the economic advancement of our country and its status as one of the world’s leading trade centers. The €400 million investment we announced at the end of 2023 as part of the ‘Renault International Game Plan 2027’ marked the first step in our vision to make the Oyak Renault Automobile Factories one of the world’s leading production centers. This includes the manufacture of four new models in Türkiye. The Renault Duster, the first phase of this investment, is already one of the most popular models in our market, with a localization rate exceeding 40%. To be produced in our country and exported to over 50 countries, Renault Boreal will provide significant contributions to the automotive sector and the Turkish economy. I believe that Renault Boreal, the result of this valuable partnership, will be a great asset to both our country and the industry.”

Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of Renault, stated: “With our Boreal model, we are taking a new step in the framework of Renault's International Game Plan. This model reflects our ambition to offer high-value vehicles that will appeal to international markets, owing to the contributions of our five strategic centers. While maintaining the momentum of success that we initiated with our SUV models, Boreal also illustrates our capacity to deliver on our commitments and make our vision a reality.”

Lionel Jaillet, CEO of Renault Group Türkiye, noted: “As Renault, we are glad to unveil Boreal, our model in the new C SUV segment, which was developed for international markets. To be produced in Brazil first, Boreal will also come off the production line in Türkiye as of 2026. Following Duster, which was offered for sale in September 2024, we are taking the second step with Boreal as part of the International Game Plan launched for Türkiye. Boreal will not only be produced in Türkiye and sold domestically, but also be exported to 54 countries in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean basin. Boreal distinguishes itself as a highly innovative and high-tech model that perfectly matches the expectations of Turkish customers with its roomy and spacious interior, ambitious exterior design, E-Tech Hybrid engine option, OpenR Link entertainment system, and Google integration. And more will follow, because we revealed that a total of four new models will be manufactured at the Oyak Renault Bursa factory by 2027. We continue our preparations for the remaining two models. Constituting one of the key pillars of this vision, Türkiye is positioned as one of the five major centers of Renault's global strategy. Together with our strong partner OYAK, we will keep supporting Türkiye's automotive ecosystem by strengthening our local teams and launching new projects.”

Turkey becomes Renault's strategic manufacturing base

Renault will introduce eight new models with an investment exceeding €3 billion, focusing on international markets as part of its International Game Plan 2027. At the meeting held in Türkiye in December 2023, it was confirmed that four of these models would be produced in the country in cooperation with OYAK and Renault. While the brand seeks to broaden its footprint in high-value-added C and D segments, Türkiye occupies the center of this strategy. Following the production of the Renault Duster, the plan to manufacture the Renault Boreal in Türkiye appears as an important milestone in this transformation strategy.  The production of Boreal will further promote Türkiye's role in Renault's global manufacturing network.

Renault Boreal's industrial strategy is built on a system that spans two continents. The model will be constructed in Curitiba, Brazil, for the Latin American market, and in Bursa, Türkiye, for over 50 non-European countries. The production facility in Türkiye will provide advantages in both logistics efficiency and production costs thanks to its proximity to more than 50 markets in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Mediterranean countries.

With these developments, Türkiye becomes no longer just a market but a strategic production and export base for Renault. Türkiye, where SUV sales account for more than half of the total market, has an outstanding potential for C-segment SUV models such as the high-value-added Boreal. Renault intends to transform its production power in Türkiye into an international success through the vehicle.

In line with this vision, Renault hopes to double its turnover per unit in non-European markets by 2027 compared to 2019.

Ivan Segal, Renault Group's Senior Vice President for International Operations, commented: “Boreal is not only a new model but a strong reflection of our international aspirations. It was designed to satisfy the needs of customers with high expectations. To be produced in Bursa after Curitiba, Boreal represents an essential step in our growth strategy for the C segment as the fourth product of the International Game Plan.”

A new SUV, a fresh vision

Renault takes its goal of becoming a global reference in the C-segment SUV market one step further with its new model Boreal. Boreal is a vehicle that has been shaped by the private expectations of Latin America, Türkiye, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean markets since its inception. It stands out with its strong and sturdy design, sophisticated equipment, and prestigious stance.

Exterior Design: Aesthetic with Bold Lines

The exterior design of the Boreal mirrors Renault's new design language. The 4.56 m long, 1.84 m wide, and 1.65 m high vehicle is positioned in the center of the C segment. It offers both aesthetic and ample living space through its 2.70 m wheelbase and flowing silhouette.

Components such as 19-inch wheels, a dual-tone roof, aluminum protection strips, and a panoramic sunroof give the vehicle a dynamic character.

Gilles Vidal, Vice President for Design at Renault and Ampere, said: “Renault Boreal embodies the brand's new design wave, in other words, an aesthetic and expressive stance where fine lines and precise shapes are combined with complementary technical elements. It is exquisite in every detail and is compatible with our most up-to-date products that we offer in Europe. Balanced body proportions enable it to establish its swift presence on the road. With a new dashboard that blends comfort and support, carefully selected materials, seats that delicately wrap the body, and a spacious and modern cabin, it makes a difference on trips.”

Interior Design: Technology and Comfort Together

The interior features a 10-inch digital display panel and a 10-inch OpenR Link multimedia screen. The system, which is fully compatible with platforms such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play applications, elevates the connected life experience to the next level.

Soft coatings and laser-embroidered decorative pieces stand out on the dashboard and seats, while the 48-color ambient lighting alters automatically based on the driving mode. Equipment such as electric seats with massaging function, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, USB-C ports, and wireless charging are all notable features. The boot capacity of 586 liters reaches 1,770 liters when folded.

Bruno Vanel, Vice President for Product Performance at Renault, explained: “Together with Boreal, Renault is taking a new step in its international development by shedding light on its new strategy beyond Europe. Designed on the Renault Group's modular platform, Boreal will deliver maximum added value, efficiency, and beneficial technologies for customers, sustainably enhancing the brand's presence in the C-segment. Boreal perfectly reflects the full DNA of today's Renault models.”

Driving Assistance Systems and Safety

Boreal is equipped with up to 24 ADAS technologies for the Turkish market. These include Lane Keeping Assistant (LKA), Blind Spot Warning System (BSW), Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Rear Cross Traffic Warning (RCTA), and a Level 2 autonomous driving assistance system. The Hands-Free Parking and 360-degree camera system provides great convenience in urban maneuvers. Adaptive LED headlights offer optimal visibility in all circumstances.

Engine and Performance

The Renault Boreal comes with a 1.3 TCe turbo engine and a 6-speed dual-clutch (EDC) automatic transmission. The variant for the Turkish market can produce 138 hp and up to 240 Nm of torque. Depending on the version, Renault Boreal offers one of the best performances in its segment in the markets where it is sold, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.26 seconds. Thanks to its Stop & Start system, it attracts attention with its low fuel consumption and emissions.

Multi-Sense Driving Options

In addition to ECO, Comfort, Sport, and Perso modes, a new "Smart Mode" is also available. This system automatically adjusts the steering wheel, engine, sound environment, and lighting according to the driving style.
