Renault, a global giant with a presence in Türkiye for over 50 years through its robust partnership with OYAK, is poised to elevate Türkiye as the brand's primary export hub. Unveiling their 2027 strategy for Türkiye from Istanbul to the world, Renault and OYAK disclosed plans for an investment exceeding € 400 million. By 2027, four new Renault models are slated for production at the OYAK Renault plants in Bursa.
OYAK and Renault Group intend to initiate new model and engine production in Türkiye through the OYAK-Renault joint venture, backed by an investment surpassing € 400 million. In its pursuit to establish Türkiye as the export hub for this automotive behemoth, Renault outlined its strategic initiatives under the ‘International Game Plan 2027' within the framework of Renaulution.
“We will make Türkiye an export hub”
During a meeting in Istanbul, Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of Renault Global, emphasized Türkiye's pivotal role in the company's new plans, positioning it as a significant hub in the Renault world. Cambolive said, “Renault has been operating in Türkiye for 54 years alongside its robust and dependable partner, OYAK. Since 1952, Renault and OYAK have jointly invested over € 2.5 billion, produced more than 7.5 million cars, and one out of every seven cars in Türkiye bears the Renault logo. Our objective is to become the market leader in Türkiye, enhance our brand with new products, establish a strong presence, particularly in the SUV segment, and implement an electrification strategy centered on hybrid and electric vehicles. We aim to transform our Bursa plant into an export hub, not only for Europe but also for other countries worldwide.”
Four new models coming
Jan Ptacek, CEO of Renault Group Türkiye, emphasized that local production is crucial for achieving market leadership in Türkiye. Ptacek announced plans to localize four new Renault models at the Bursa OYAK Renault Plant before 2027. Ptacek said, “Among the new cars, three will be SUVs, including the Renault Duster. With these new products, Renault will further solidify its leadership in Türkiye by offering a product range that caters to customer needs in the B and C SUV segments.”
Highlighting Türkiye's significant industrial presence within the Renault Group, Ptacek continued, “The industrial footprint of our Bursa plant holds paramount importance in establishing an efficient industrial center. The OYAK Renault factory boasts the largest passenger car production capacity in Türkiye. Taking a step further, with the commissioning of Renault Group's new modular platform at our Bursa plant by 2026, we are enhancing our capabilities. This flexible and highly efficient platform integrates a diverse range of powertrain technologies.”
Ptacek announced OYAK and Renault's new investment as follows:“By 2025, the number of engineers at the R&D center in Bursa will reach 500, signifying a doubling of the R&D team compared to 2022. This expansion will also contribute to the development of local engineering expertise. Renault Group is set to invest over € 400 million as part of the 2027 strategy initiative with OYAK. This substantial investment underscores Renault's strong confidence in Türkiye's potential and the brand's significant role on the international stage. Renault's comprehensive strategy in Türkiye aims to fortify its leadership in the Turkish market and strengthen its global position.”
New Duster from Bursa
As part of the 'Renault International Game Plan 2027,' four new models are slated for production at the OYAK-Renault plant in Bursa. Dr. Berk Çağdaş, CEO of MAİS A.Ş., highlighted that the first among these models is the Renault Duster. Çağdaş said, “The New Renault Duster, set to debut in Türkiye in 2024, will be the initial offering among the three SUVs Renault plans to localize in Türkiye. I am confident that the New Renault Duster will continue the success story of the Duster model. A true icon, the Duster has achieved remarkable success worldwide over its 13-year career, with over 1.7 million units sold globally. The New Renault Duster will feature hybrid technology, aligning with one of the main priorities of the 'International Game Plan 2027’. We reassert our commitment to leading the Turkish automotive market by providing diverse, locally produced, and electric vehicles.
