İsdemir, one of OYAK Mining and Metallurgy companies, continues to add value to Turkish industry and the iron and steel sector with its sustainable production approach. Having commissioned Türkiye’s largest-capacity blast furnace, İsdemir is accelerating its investments on its 55th anniversary.
Highlighting İsdemir’s pioneering role in Turkish industry and the iron and steel sector, Murat Yalçıntaş, CEO of OYAK, said, “With its modern production facilities, strong export performance, and innovative technological infrastructure, İsdemir contributes to our country’s competitiveness in the global arena. Founded in 1970, İsdemir continues to play a significant role in the development of Turkish industry through its production and export capacity, as well as the employment it provides. İsdemir directly employs nearly 5,000 people and indirectly supports approximately 9,000 jobs. With a liquid steel capacity of 5.8 million tons per year, it is Türkiye’s only integrated steel producer capable of manufacturing both flat and long products.
As part of the 55th anniversary celebrations, OYAK Chairman of the Board Zekai Aksakallı, Board Chairman of OYAK, Murat Yalçıntaş, CEO of OYAK and Chairman of the Board of Erdemir-İsdemir, Board Members, and executives of OYAK Mining and Metallurgy companies visited the İsdemir facilities, hosted by Ayhan Akın, General Manager of İsdemir.
During the visit, Murat Yalçıntaş, CEO of OYAK, closely inspected the facilities and emphasized the company’s pioneering role in Turkish industry and the iron and steel sector. He noted that since its inception, İsdemir has played a key role in the development of both Türkiye and the İskenderun region. Yalçıntaş continued, “With its modern production facilities, strong export performance, and innovative technological infrastructure, İsdemir contributes to our country’s competitiveness in the global arena. Beyond being a production hub, it is an institution that creates social and economic value.”
Yalçıntaş also highlighted that the environmental and technological investments implemented by İsdemir under its Net Zero Roadmap are exemplary practices guiding the sustainable transformation of Turkish industry and said, “İsdemir’s determination to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 is of great importance not only in terms of environmental sustainability but also for the vision of aligning Turkish industry with global standards. This approach concretely reflects OYAK’s sustainability-focused, long-term value creation strategy.”
Türkiye’s largest-capacity blast furnace commissioned
In line with this goal, İsdemir accelerated its investments and commissioned Türkiye’s largest-capacity blast furnace, “Cemile”, in 2025. With an annual liquid pig iron production capacity of 2.8 million tons, the new-generation blast furnace enhances efficiency, provides energy savings, and is equipped with advanced technologies. Its environmentally friendly gas recovery system reduces emissions, significantly supporting İsdemir’s journey toward its carbon-neutral objectives.
