1991 - 2000

1991: OYAK participated in the establishment of a leasing company, Halk Finansal Kiralama, in line with new trends in the economy.

1992: OYAK took equity stakes in cement factories in Niğde and İskenderun as part of the privatisation program. ATM cards were introduced in order to facilitate the member loan program.

1993: ALO-OYAK, a dedicated telephone service was introduced to improve communications with members. A portion of shares in MAIS were transferred to Renault S.A., the French partner of OYAK-Renault.

1994: The Company acquires full ownership of Türk Boston Bank (formerly First National Bank of Boston).

1995: Investments continued in partnership with the Axa Group of France and a joint venture life insurance company, Axa-OYAK Hayat Sigorta, was established. In addition to equity investments, OYAK established a mutual fund, OYAK Fon, parallel to developments in the finance sector.

1996: Following a change in the OYAK Law new programs were introduced: "Retirement Pension System" which provides a life annuity for members, and "Supplementary Housing Preaccumulation Fund" which assists the members, who voluntarily enter the system, to purchase housing. Türk Boston Bank is renamed Oyak Bank. In the same year, cement company Elazığ Çimento became a participation of OYAK through the privatisation program.

1997: A change in the shareholder structure of OYAK-Renault and MAİS, OYAK's participation in the automotive industry, made OYAK and Renault S.A. equal partners in the enterprises. OYAK launched its website (http://www.oyak.com.tr) in order to improve communications with members.

1998: Ordu Pazarları, which had functioned as army commissaries, was opened to the general public as department stores under the name OYPA.

1999: OYAK, in order to combine its strength in the insurance area, established Axa-Oyak Holding as an umbrella for its participations with Axa Group of France.

2000: The number of members reached 179,000. A comprehensive restructuring of OYAK's organization and management principles began. Changes were made in the management of most of OYAK's participations. Retirement benefits to members increased 10 times in US dollar terms since the date of OYAK's establishment. OYAK Savunma ve Güvenlik Sistemleri, a security firm, was established. In addition, OYAK took an important step toward creating more resources for its members by securing external sources for loan services through a program set up with Vakıfbank.
